Electromechanical Actuation of Carbon Nanotube Actuator Using Polymer Electrolyte

Abstract


The multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) actuators in dry and wet states were manufactured with an employment of the polymer electrolyte. Effects of some parameters governing actuation of actuators on actuation behavior were investigated. In the wet-state actuator, a concentration of NaCl solution affected largely the bending displacement of actuator. Specially, an alignment of MWNTs in the nanotube layers affected the displacement of actuator. The aligned MWNTs were largely contributed to the bending displacement of actuator. The behavior of dry-state MWNT actuator was also demonstrated with an applied voltage in air environment.
