Design and Testing Guide Vanes of Single Rotor Ducted Fan

Abstract


Research on Flying car still continue on Center for Unmanned system Studies – Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB). The one of this real effort was Propulsion system research. Several propulsion system have been developing to support this requirement. Single rotor ducted fan was one of them, but single rotor ducted fan still have contra moment residue. Reducing this effect still the most problem of the design process. Guide fan technology has been popular for turbo machinery devices. We tried to apply this method in order to tackle of this single rotor moment problem. The main function of this fan is to reduce swirl flow inside the duct. There are numerous factors contributing to the success or failure of this design. Guide fan profile was one of them. Several design methods for this profile will be explained on this paper. There are compromise between reducing moment and overall Thrust for this propulsion system. In order to validate this design, we used special test bed platform for Small VTOL -UAV to measure all forces and moment that’s influenced by this several design of guide fan. Another goal of this design is to increase the effectiveness of control surface that’s was attached after the guide fan.
