Numerical Study of Unsteady Flow past a Circular Cylinder

M. Kim, J. Kim

Abstract

Unsteady flow past a three-dimensional circular cylinder is numerically simulated to understand the flow phenomena at the low Reynolds number ranges. The aspect ratios of 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 are considered as a shape parameter and the Reynolds numbers of , , , and are considered. The present research figures out the effects of the aspect ratios and the Reynolds numbers on the unsteady flow phenomena, especially the vortex shedding pattern, the oscillating force frequency and the amplitude. FLUENT, which is a very well-known commercial code, is used to simulate the unsteady flow with LES turbulence model.
