Multi-Plat IRST Tracking System with Radar Assistance

Feng Yang, Keli Liu, Hao Chen, Yan Liang

Abstract

In the multi-target tracking field, the infrared sensor of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) has a very good concealment because it don’t emit energy to the surveillance area. Due to the lack of range information, the traditional method of multi-plat infrared sensor search and tracking (IRST) system use cross location to realize target localization and tracking, but the tracking accuracy becomes poor when maneuvering targets appear. While the radar can receive both the range and bearing measurements which can ensure the tracking accuracy. So, the proposed algorithm facing to the UAV system combines the accuracy of radar with the concealment of IRST, and use the current statistical model to track the maneuvering target. This algorithm propose the policy of the radar on/off and track evaluation algorithm. The measurements of radar are introduced to initial tracks and modify the error tracks. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithm.
