Evaluation of Intelligent Mini UAV Design Parameters for Urban Operations within 3D Robotic Simulator

Pang Wee Ching, Gerald Seet, Michael Lau

Abstract

UAV operations in urban terrain are more demanding due to the intense clutter and complexity of obstacles within the environment. The design and development of a UAV, imbued with autonomous capabilities for urban operations, is the way to mitigate the high mental load of UAV operators and pilots. For the early stage of developing such an intelligent UAV, a virtual integration of the system would make it possible to test a software implementation without endangering the hardware or the environment. The virtual environment to test UAV software is an in-house 3D robotic simulation system, RoboSim. The work would include modeling and simulating the intelligent UAV as well as the integration of the software in the simulation.
