Advancements and Challenges in the Design and Development of Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs)

Abstract


This paper provides an overview of the design and development of Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) for various marine applications. It highlights recent advancements, challenges, and future trends in UUV design. Key considerations in UUV design include hydrodynamics, power systems, sensing capabilities, communication systems, and autonomous control algorithms. Technological breakthroughs in materials science, sensor technology, and battery technology have enabled the development of UUVs with improved endurance, maneuverability, and data collection capabilities. Challenges in UUV design include robustness in harsh underwater conditions, power limitations, energy efficiency, and autonomous decision-making. Emerging trends include bio-inspired UUVs and the integration of artificial intelligence for adaptive control. Interdisciplinary collaborations and ongoing research efforts are crucial for advancing UUV design and deployment in underwater applications. This paper serves as a valuable resource for researchers, engineers, and practitioners involved in UUV development.
