An Autonomous Pointing System for Stratospheric Balloon-borne Multi-mission Platform

Honghui Wang, Zhaohui Yuan, Hong Gao

Abstract

A balloon-borne platform is an effective way to carry out scientific research in the stratosphere, while the control design for its pointing system is complex and challenging. To realize such a system, this paper describes the whole constructing scheme and designs a ‘torque decoupler’ to make the system controllable. The presented pointing system is a non-matching uncertain nonlinear system essentially, as the classic control method is restricted for such a system due to rejecting the influence of parametric time-varying, external disturbances and uncertainties. Furthermore the feature analysis and performance optimization using adaptive control and multi-sliding mode method in this paper provides some approaches and thoughts to promote control performance in more complex applications.
