Autonomous Operation of Unmanned Rovers on Mars: AI Challenges and Solutions
Abstract
This paper examines the autonomous operation of unmanned rovers on Mars, focusing on the unique challenges posed by the Martian environment. We explore the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in enabling rovers to navigate, communicate, and conduct scientific missions independently. The study identifies key AI challenges, including real-time decision-making, terrain analysis, and fault tolerance. Solutions leveraging advanced algorithms and machine learning techniques are proposed to enhance rover autonomy and efficiency. This research contributes to the ongoing development of intelligent systems for planetary exploration, paving the way for future missions on Mars and beyond.
