Multi-Agent Systems for Cooperative Underwater Environmental Monitoring

Vishnu Kumar Kaliappan

Abstract

Cooperative underwater environmental monitoring is crucial for understanding marine ecosystems and addressing environmental challenges. This paper explores the use of multi-agent systems (MAS) to enhance the effectiveness of underwater environmental monitoring. We propose a framework that enables multiple Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) to collaborate in data collection, analysis, and decision-making processes. By leveraging communication protocols and distributed algorithms, the proposed system allows UUVs to adaptively coordinate their actions based on real-time environmental data. Case studies demonstrate the advantages of MAS in improving data accuracy, coverage, and efficiency in environmental monitoring missions. This research contributes to the development of more intelligent and responsive underwater monitoring systems, facilitating better stewardship of marine environments.
